Doggy World – Animal characters illustration

Hello all! Wishing you a good Wednesday on this wet and cold afternoon.

For today’s blog post, I am continuing with animal characters illustration. The next animal character that I will be working on is dogs. For the next several posts, I will be working on creating various different characters of dogs from different breeds.

The first illustration is the Afghan Hound dog. I am fascinated by few characteristics of the Afghan Hound and decided to create a character based on these features. The origin of this dog is from the mountainous region of Afghanistan. The interesting history about this dog is that the Afghan Hound dates back to the pre christian era. Apparently there are cave paintings in Afghanistan as old as 4000 years which depict their presence. There are also paintings of Afghan Hounds in 6th Century BC Greek tapestries as well.

The Afghan Hound is very elegant with a beautiful long lustrous coat of hairs. It also feels majestic as well. For this illustration, I am creating a character that looks aristocratic, elegant and I have this idea in mind of a portrait of an 18th century gentleman. I also like the image of lustrous long hair as well. In this illustration, I illustrated the Afghan Hound as a portrait of an elegant and distinguished gentleman. For this illustration, I used black graphic pens, brush markers and coloured inks.

When I am not illustrating, I will be in the Art Gallery looking for inspiration. I also volunteer at the National Gallery of Ireland. I also enjoy cooking as well as good delicious foods and wine. I do love good long nature walks.
